Jay Austin (Alex Kendrick) wants to sell you a used car, but watch out! Many victims have fallen prey to his smiling face and hasty promises. Austin does everything his way until his dishonesty and manipulation are exposed. Like many men, he becomes disgusted by the masks he wears and lies he tells. While having a classic convertible repaired, Austin begins a humorous and inspiring journey to win back the hearts of his wife (Janet Lee Dapper), his son (Richie Hunnewell), and his community. In every man's life, there can be a turning point. When Jay Austin makes his turn, he never looks back.
Filmed on location in Albany, Georgia, Flywheel has been shown in theatres, churches, prisons, and schools. It is an inspiring family movie surprising audiences with laughter and tears and is loved by young and old!
This film was produced on a micro-budget of only $20-thousand dollars by a church in rural Georgia. Media Pastor Alex Kendrick wrote, produced and directed--and even starred in the film. Oh -- and Kendrick composed the music.
This is a low-budget film, to be sure, but it is remarkably well-written. This is one of the better Christian dramas we've seen in a while, definitely one we recommend.
Audiences love Flywheel. When it played in one theater in Georgia, it grossed almost $24,000 during a six week run, and the church sold several thousand copies on VHS and DVD with no real distribution or marketing. It's also being shown on various US cable outlets
